Cheers! Alchemy Wines conjure up partnership with Burnley as Clarets’ Claret raises awareness of prostate cancer

Burnley FC has teamed up with two leading wine producers, Alchemy Wines and Château Baudac in a new venture that will raise money for and awareness of prostate cancer.

The exciting collaboration has been based on bringing an excellent quality, classic Bordeaux wine to the fans of the Premier League club, nicknamed the Clarets, via the Ipswich-based Alchemy.

The aptly named Clarets’ Claret was served for the first time as Burnley hosted Liverpool at Turf Moor on 5 December, and sales of the wine will benefit Prostate Cancer UK and the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Foundation.

The partnership was the brainchild of Peter Moorhouse, a lifelong Burnley fan, and David Rowledge, who lost his father, Peter to prostate cancer in 2010, having suffered for over a decade.

David said: “My father was Chairman of Alchemy Wines for a long part of the period he was affected by prostate cancer so this will help raise funds for the ground-breaking research required into changing the game for men and their loved ones.

“We are excited to be working with Burnley on this project and are keen to develop more concepts like this across football, rugby, cricket, boxing and other sports so further funds can be raised for this hugely important cause.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, and shocking stats have revealed one man dies every 45 minutes from the disease – two per game of football.

Former Burnley chairman Kilby has successfully recovered from the disease, and as part of every sale £1.50 will be split between Prostate Cancer UK and the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Jake Martens, Football Project Manager at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “It’s fantastic to see that Alchemy are helping raise funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK. By doing this they are helping to make a real difference in furthering the fight against prostate cancer.”

“The money raised will help us fund more ground-breaking research, provide dedicated support and information to men and their loved ones and make prostate cancer a disease the next generation of men need not fear.”

Many people are unaware that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. It’s a huge issue that cannot be ignored. One man will die from prostate cancer every 45 minutes in the UK. That’s over 11,500 men a year.

Charles Packshaw- Chair of Prostate Cancer UK-

“On behalf of Prostate Cancer UK, we are fully supportive of this new initiative and are delighted to be working along Alchemy Wines to help save lives .”
