The Masia J Selection - Catalunya D.O.
 From
the hilly hinterlands west of the Penedes not too far from
Barcelona. Growing conditions here are much the same as
in the cooler parts of the Penedes and there is great potential
for both red and white wines. Now the area has some of the
most technical equipment available in the wine industry
and the wines are becoming well known. The two wines below
show how the Old World meets the New World of wine: traditional
Spanish grape varieties blended with the ever popular Chardonnay
and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Alchemy Wines has worked in this region for the last 5 years - we liked what we saw so much, we created our own range. The wines are soft, round and approachable. Sensible use of oak makes these wines uncomplicated and great all-rounders.
The Masia J Red is a blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Cabernet - the Tempranillo grows in small hand tended bush vine parcels on the slopes of the Conca basin. The white blend is 60% Viura and 40% barrel fermented Chardonnay, the high altitude of the vineyards results in a longer cooler ripening period capturing delicate fruit flavours.

Within
the Masia J range, with its eye-catching yet simple branding
we now include a stunning Reserva Pinot Noir and a beautifully
crafted Reserva Merlot. These two wines are very limited
in production. Alchemy has only nine barrels (225 litres)
of both the 2003's available, but now has three times this
amount of the 2004 vintage sitting in barrel awaiting its
ready date. These wines are crafted with delicacy at the
forefront of the production process. Very low yields making
stunning wine with minimum handling, an excellent addition
to this compact range of wines from another of Alchemy’s wonderful production partners!
