We regularly deal with a number of experienced wine shippers including Schenker, Hillebrand, Wineflow, Interexpress, Ziegler, Kuehne & Nagle and Rommel. We therefore leave the choice of shipper to our customers and will co-ordinate as required. However we do recommend Freight Transport Ltd as they travel to our Calais warehouse once of twice each week.

To complement the Alchemy Wines Ltd service to our customers, it is therefore suggested that the physical movement of the wines be handled by our preferred transporters, Freight Transport Ltd.

FTL are specialists in the movement of wines and spirits and their trained staff have years of experience in all aspects of this exacting business. Offering a comprehensive ex-cellars operation which can be tailored to individual customers' requirements, FTL are Registered Excise Dealers and Shippers (REDs agents) therefore able to take on duty formalities in house.

During the years immediately after their foundation in 1988, FTL specialised in Transport to and from France. Whilst this remains their biggest 'market', numerous other locations served by the Company can be found in many European and Scandinavian Countries. The Company is still headed by two of the founder members: Andy Bearryman is the managing director and Michael Battye is the operations director.

Their home base is in Portsmouth. This is a favourable location because it is from here that there are direct ferry links with Le Havre, Caen, St Malo, Cherbourg and Bilbao. There is also an office in Dover. There they use the short sea services and the tunnel. In Portsmouth FTL has their own distribution warehouse, which is open 7 days per week. It is a safe location and houses the office from where the operations are controlled. The directors and senior managers are still involved with every aspect of the company. The staff has to be multi-tasked and have more than one area of expertise.

The bespoke computer system aids the operation and is now linked to Freightrack, an on-line order monitoring facility. This enables clients to watch their shipments in the movement chain.

Quality plays a big part in their operation. Freight Transport was one of the first freight forwarders to achieve BS-ENO-ISO-9001 status and maintain the high standards required for continued certification.
